From the French Revolution to the Russian Revolution to the passions of the revolutionary left in our times
Enduring Interest podcast
So today’s recommendation is a conversation on the passion & ideas of the radical left, on the Enduring Interest podcast. My friend & fellow PoMoCon Flagg Taylor invited Nathan Pinkoski of the Zephyr Institute at Stanford to discuss François Furet’s The Passing of an Illusion: The Idea of Communism in the Twentieth Century.

Thanks for bringing this to my/our attention, Titus. Much obliged. I'm not sure that anti-bourgeois ire quite captures our ideological movements today, which are less class-based and more race/sex/gender based (at least ostensibly). But Furet did see deeply into modern ideology, so he deserves a hearing and careful consideration. Plus, I know Flagg and Nathan will do a great job.
Indeed, it's a very involved question--what counts more, class or other things? We used to say class defines politics, but then again, it is remarkably absent in our political opinions!
