Peter Lawler founded PostModern Conservative and led it through its various online platforms until his death in 2017. Most of us here were in one way or another his proteges—we wrote for PoMoCon, some studied with Peter through ISI, others heard him lecture & were won over by his combination of decency & wit. Peter had a rare ability for bringing people together; he also helped many young scholars get a first book or some project to help their thinking & career both; &, in the spirit of collegiality, he was constantly busy editing or writing for edited volumes, in the hope that academia could foster friendship, without which the promise of learning is rather difficult...
To honor Peter, we put together a series of podcasts to introduce him & his political, philosophical, & theological thought through conversations with his friends, colleagues, intellectual interlocutors, scholars he helped, & we PoMoCons:
Prof. Patrick Deneen of Notre Dame University
Richard Reinsch & Brian Smith of Law & Liberty
Yuval Levin of National Affairs
Mark Henrie, who led the ISI honors programs where many friendships were made
Prof. Dan Mahoney of Assumption University, one of Peter’s oldest friends
Prof. Paul Seaton of St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore
Prof. Tom Harmon of St. Thomas University in Houston
Prof. Flagg Taylor of Skidmore College
Carl Eric Scott & Pete Spiliakos—the principal members of PoMoCon for many years.
