Today, we begin a series on the greatest living French thinker, Pierre Manent, a Catholic Straussian, a critic of liberalism & defender of the democratic nation-state, a political theorist. I talked to my friends Carl Eric Scott & Paul Seaton for the introductory session: We will acquaint you with the man’s thought, his questions in political philosophy, & some of his books. Paul is one of Manent’s American translators—I will soon interview a couple of others, who are also friends of PoMoCon!

I learned so, so much from him in my years at Fordham.
