For various reasons, maybe including war coming close to Titus’s (Romania) doorstep, things have been a bit quiet over here of late. We promise a better March than February, but in the meantime, here’s a couple of good tidbits from others.
First, my friend and Skidmore Political Science Professor Natalie Taylor has written a fascinating analysis of the HBO/Amazon Prime miniseries The White Lotus over at Law & Liberty (after reading Natalie’s piece, scroll around to find Titus’s recent review of the new western 1883).
Taylor is an expert in feminist thought, and wrote some rich analysis back in the day of Mad Men. She’s fascinated with the way this new set-in-Hawaii series focuses on the need for Gen-Z boys to “Man up in a Woke World.” Coming from the pen of Mike White, who gave us such gems as School of Rock and Nacho Libre, it really sounds like must-viewing.
Second, here’s a video from Jordan Peterson talking with Canadian journalism veteran Rex Murphy on the ongoing political turmoil in Canada. I think what’s particularly valuable about it is the focus on certain constitutional aspects of the crisis.
The Ukraine war has given legacy media a perfect excuse to ignore the unfolding Canada story, which in my judgment is at least as significant a story for the citizens of all the liberal democracies. Legacy media can also pretend that the Canada turmoil is basically over, given the removal of the trucks and protestors from Ottawa, but listening to Jordan and Rex, you’ll see that it’s only in the early stages. And there are ongoing protests in half of Canada’s cities! I would also encourage you to seek out ongoing news on this from trucker-sympathetic commenters on youtube or other video sites, particularly Justin Credible, Tireroaster’s Garage, and this fellow, Clyde Do Something. It was through him that I learned of Peterson’s video. If readers know of other real-media sources on the Canadian situation, feel free to share them in the comments.
